Trump says that B-2 bombers are already back in the US after attack on Iran
Fighter jets were used during the operation called the "Midnight Hammer" to attack nuclear facilities
US President Donald Trump said this Sunday on the Truth Social network that the pilots of the B-2 bombers that participated in the attack on nuclear facilities in Iran are already back in the United States.
"The great B-2 pilots have just landed safely in Missouri. Thank you for the excellent work!" Trump said in a post.
Seven of these aircraft were responsible for what the Pentagon has described as the largest bombing with B-2 aircraft in history, in reference to the attack on the nuclear facilities of Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow in Iran, during the operation baptized as the "Midnight Hammer".
The bombers had taken off Friday night from the Whiteman base in the state of Missouri. Some flew to Guam, in the Pacific, to act as a decoy, while the rest sneaked east on a flight that lasted about 18 hours.
Along with the B-2s, they also participated in the bombing, refueling tanker aircraft, reconnaissance aircraft and fighters, to make a total of more than 125 aircraft. They were supported by the fire of American submarines.
The attack began at 5:00 p.m., Washington time, and 1:10 a.m., Iran time, and for two hours 75 missiles and bombs were launched.
B-2 bombers are strategic combat aircraft designed by the United States to penetrate heavy air defenses and carry out precision attacks, capable of achieving high invisibility on radars.
They were also responsible for launching the so-called 13,600 kilogram anti-bunker bombs that had the objective of destroying the Iranian nuclear program.
Some facilities, as in the case of Fordow, were at great depth, so the use of this type of pump was essential.
According to the Pentagon, US forces suffered no casualties in the attack.
