"We don't know more": Sheinbaum evades to delve into Ovidio Guzmán's change of statement

President Claudia Sheinbaum avoided deepening this Wednesday the guilt agreement of Ovidio Guzmán López, alias "El Ratón", with the United States government.

Yesterday, Tuesday, it was reported in judicial records in the United States that the son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, alias "El Chapo", planned to plead guilty before the Court of the Northern District of Illinois, Chicago.

"What is known is that he is going to change his statement, no more is known yet. In other words, the only thing that came out public is that he changes his statement," the president said in her morning conference.

Sheinbaum recalled that "El Ratón", one of the leaders of the Chapitos faction, was arrested on January 5, 2023 in Culiacán, Sinaloa, and months later he was extradited to the neighboring country to be prosecuted by the US justice system.

Ovidio Guzmán faces charges of money laundering, conspiracy for drug trafficking and carrying firearms.

"There are agreements in the case of extradition and other collaborations," the president said.

"El Ratón" had its hearing scheduled for May 12, but it was canceled to make a "change of guilt," which will be on July 9 at 11:00 in the morning.

When asked if she had already received information from the United States government about the arrest of Ismael Zambada, alias "El Mayo", the president reported that they still had not answered, but that the Mexican security table has made that approach to their American namesakes.

The alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel and partner of "El Chapo" demanded that the government of Mexico intervene in early 2025 for his repatriation, stating that "he cannot remain passive in the face of this violation of international law and must act firmly to demand compensation for the damage and the restitution of my rights."
