Nissan is betting on nuclear energy to operate its plants in Mexico.

Nissan's three plants in the country together consume nearly 400 gigawatt-hours per year. Of that total, approximately 360 GWh are supplied by the only nuclear power plant operating in Mexico.
Nissan Mexicana has placed nuclear energy at the center of its strategy to decarbonize manufacturing. Through a direct contract with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the Japanese automaker obtains 90% of the energy demand from its three plants in Mexico: two in Aguascalientes and one in Morelos.
The company has also begun investing in on-site solar generation. This week, it inaugurated a small photovoltaic plant in the logistics yard of its Aguascalientes II plant, with an investment of $60,000.
